Stoic Quote of the Week
If it is not right, do not do it; if it is not true, do not say it.
-Marcus Aurelius
What I learned this week:
There is one thing in human existence that is the foundation for all relationships, and I mean all relationships. That is trust. Every leader has the trust of his team. Every friendship has trust amongst the friends. Every business interaction requires trust. It is the one most intangible and fragile thing that we all must rely on. Even driving down the road requires trust of a total stranger! It is also a fragile trait of a relationship that can be gone in the blink of an eye. In one single action, trust can be destroyed. I’ve seen a lack of trust destroy marriages. I’ve seen it destroy businesses and friendships. What happens is that the trust is there, and one party decides to violate that trust through some action. The action of greed, self-indulgence, self-importance, and many more mortal sins all drive people to make that decision in that moment and violate the trust in the relationship. I’ve made many a business deal with a handshake and many more where the handshake was followed up with a document explaining the agreement. The paper does nothing to solidify the trust, just like a marriage license does nothing more than put the agreement on paper. Trust is what we all rely on to move forward in life. When our trust in someone in our life is violated, it does more than harm that relationship. It changes your outlook on other relationships. It doesn’t matter if the trust was violated in a personal or business relationship. The violation of trust is the same. Without trust, I can’t drive down the road. Without trust, I can’t stay with Ms. Suzanne. Without trust, I can’t grow my business. Without trust, I cannot lead. Trust is something that each of us must honor and uphold in all our actions. A violation of trust deserves the severest of actions to end the relationship rapidly. It is the only way you can move forward and be able to trust others.
Planning thought of the week:
A plan doesn’t always have to be a five-paragraph operations order. It can be a synchronization matrix (aka Gantt Chart)—something that shows who’s doing what, when, and what outcome they will achieve. I’ve operated off of many synchronization matrixes for military and business projects. If this is the best way to convey what needs to get done and when to your team because you know no one on your team will sit down and read an operations order, then it is the best tool for you to use.
Business idea I heard about or thought of:
The most beautiful thing about a crisis is that it has an end. That’s what makes it a crisis. Crisis never last. Because a crisis has an end, there is an opportunity at the end of it. The hard part about a crisis is surviving it. I know many business owners in the government contracting space that are struggling to keep the doors open. There are just as many, if not more, people who have lost their jobs and are in crisis mode. The bad part about being in crisis mode is that you don’t see opportunity. All you see is red, failure, alarms, bankruptcy, and so on down the list of terrible things that keep us from seeing beyond the crisis. When you step out of the crisis circle and begin to look at the bigger picture, you will see the opportunity. It may not be what you were doing before the crisis, but if you can manage how you look at things and see the opportunity, you can pivot into it. What is happening in the USG is a great example. There is opportunity. It may not be in your comfort zone, but it is there.

Someone I met this week:
Robert and I finally got to link up in person. Robert Lock is a sales guru. His company does more than just train your sales team. They help set the whole thing up for your business and make sure it is generating the revenue you want to build the growth you envision. We had a great time chatting over coffee at a new secret place in the Denver Tech Center. Conversations are always easier when you have similar values and desire to help others. If you are looking to grow your business, you can’t do it without sales. Give me a shout, and I’ll connect you with Robert and his team at Buffalo Mountain Sales Strategies.

21 小时前Otis McGregor’s reflection on trust is powerful and resonates deeply. Trust truly is the cornerstone of all relationships, whether personal or professional. His insight into the fragility of trust how it can be broken in a single moment reminds us of how much we must nurture and protect it in all areas of life. His take on crises also offers a valuable perspective: while they’re tough, crises can present opportunities for those who can see beyond the immediate turmoil. A great reminder to focus on solutions and pivot when necessary!
