Fun Fact
I've created a short, self-paced online 'course' called The Relational Empowerment Experiment. It's an experiment because I'm testing an exceptional new-to-me online course platform and a collaborative facilitation process.
I'm also aiming to make this a worthwhile experience for participants. The theme is 'Relationships - How can I improve my ability to create win-win situations with the people I interact with in any situation?'
The 'experiment' commences Monday 14th August (it's Ok to enrol up to 21st Aug) and will take 1-3 hours of your time across about a month. Oh, and it'll cost you a dollar - I also need to test the payment gateway.

The bad news ...
Recently, I had a potential client tell me that the quality of an online course was 100% dependent on the quality of its content and that the online learning platform used was irrelevant.
I was glad to hear his statement because I suspect the 'All online learning platforms are essentially equal' is a common belief. This belief, of course, is a misconception - the statement could not be further from the truth.
I'm not criticising the gentleman. He was speaking from his experience, from what he knew. The trouble is we don't know what we don't know, and the 'we don't know what we don't know' syndrome is no more valid than within the landscape of online learning.
I've spent 14 years and thousands of hours building and facilitating self-paced online learning for change. At least a thousand of those hours had me wanting to throw my computer through a window in frustration. And that's because - from the perspective of creating online learning journeys for change, most online learning platforms are appalling in their ability to create interaction and collaboration online.

The good news ...
However, I discovered a unique online learning platform a few months back that has blown my mind. Imagine a system that allows you to:
I could go on for another 20 bullets.
These features may mean little to readers with less than a few hundred hours of online course-building experience. But trust me; these are game-changers - and common sense. I've not seen them in any other online course platform.
Facilitating a 'Whole-is-greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts' experience
When you have access to an online platform designed for interaction and collaboration, why not aim to facilitate in a way that draws wisdom from the group? I've been unable to try this until now, hence this 'experiment'.
What you stand to gain
The aim is that participants will gain insights that empower them to affect the relationships in their lives - with students, colleagues, leaders, family, friends - whatever the participants want to focus on. It's only a toe dip, but takeaways will be on offer.
What to be part of the experiment?

1 年Richard Andrew - I want to publicly applaud this effort to increase collaboration and communication in an online environment! One of the greatest compliments I ever received as an educator was not about the content but the community aspect of my course. A learner wrote that he made a friend he would have otherwise glossed over and ignored. He said it took a while to get used to working with so many different people all the time, but ultimately, he said it helped him feel a part of something larger. A community! He was able to find connections in places he would have never looked. Facilitation becomes dramatically easier once learners feel connected with their peers and are on the journey together. I am excited to see what you have put together and the community that will take part!
