Rejuvenation
Rejuvenation
Turks and Caicos is now my favorite destination vacation. As many of you may have seen over the past week - my family and I have been living it up at an all-inclusive beach resort. I've never been so relaxed in my life.
It's a strange feeling to be somewhere and not have constant thoughts of work, entrepreneurship, the millions of tasks that have to happen every day, and how to respond to the litany of emails that deluge my inbox.
For the first time in a long time, my mind felt blank - and that's a good thing. We all need to recharge every once in a while and unplug. While I still used my phone - it was not with the fervor and intensity that I normally do to keep operations going for Aerial Resupply Coffee.
I think we take for granted our weekends and downtime. We tend to think that work ends at a specific time and that we will be able to 100% shift our focus to something else and completely mentally reset.
That's not how it works at all. But - if a vacation can put my brain on pause for a week - then I'm all for it. Hopefully, everyone who reads this has something planned in the near future.
The 5 types of Office Coffee Drinkers
While on vacation - I got to thinking about the common types of coffee drinkers here in the office. I want to have a lot of fun with this, so without further delay:
1. The Aficionado. You know who this is. They bring all of their extreme coffee gear to work and proceed to showcase it to everyone. Coffee, for them, is an experience and will likely require 20-30 minutes to get just right before work starts in the morning. Like people who do Crossfit or triathlons, they won't shut up about it either.
2. The Drain. Great at one thing: drinking all of the coffee in the pot and walking away, leaving nothing for anyone else. And by all the coffee - we mean the full 10 cups - as their 44-ounce receptacle exists only so they don't have to get up again.
3. The "I'm not awake enough for this yet." Immediately comes to work - goes right to the coffee pot and pours a mug, even before they sit down. The moment someone tries to talk to them, they are kindly greeted with a finger that says, "I'm not ready." Ringing phones, Teams messages, or urgent emails need not apply until the bottom of the mug can be seen clearly. May or may not have a mug that promotes violence before the first cup of coffee is consumed.
4. The Naysayer. Hates coffee. Is the exact opposite of the aficionado in that they won't shut up about their hatred for it. Talks about how they've only ever consumed energy drinks, soda, or anything else that gives them their caffeine fix to get them through the day. Won't acknowledge that coffee might be healthy - only that their 5th Mountain Dew is what really gets them through the morning.
*Not to be confused with the Hydro-homie that only consumes gallons of water. At least they are promoting hydration. (Still won't be quiet about it though).

5. The Disgruntled One. Doesn't matter how much coffee they drink - there's not enough caffeine in this world to make them happy. The only thing that keeps them going more than caffeine is hatred for their workplace, the people they work with, and maybe kittens. May or may not have a hidden bottle of whiskey on the premises to add "flavor" to their coffee.

1 年This is a laugh out loud post. Since we do business with a lot of coffee companies we have inside info. "Startburnt" is a great marketing machine but their coffee is over-roasted and gives me heartburn! Stopped at a small roaster here in Richmond yesterday and bought 4 bags of fresh ground coffee as gifts. I'll be by Michael!
