Rejection Emails, Sleep Regressions, and Lessons Learned-sharing what I've learned in my dive into my job search!
Losing a dream job can be disorienting - it's like the music suddenly stopped at a party you didn't want to end. I remember that moment, feeling a mix of panic and uncertainty, especially with a little one to care for. But, as daunting as it seemed, I knew I had to dive into the job search arena. If you find yourself in a similar situation, here's a roadmap based on my experience - a blend of strategy, networking, and self-belief.
1. Embrace the Process: Take a moment to grieve and regain your composure. In the words of Stephen Covey, 'Sharpen the Saw.' Prioritize your well-being because a confident, composed you is your best asset.
2. Leverage Your Network: Your professional connections are more valuable than ever. Don't hesitate to reach out. I was amazed by the support I received. People genuinely want to help, so allow them to assist you. And remember, when you're back on your feet, pay it forward. Something that has been crucial to my search is working with a mentor
3. Craft Your Resume: Write your resume, but don’t stop there. Seek candid feedback. Constructive criticism sharpens your presentation and gives you an edge in the competitive job market.
4. Own Your Achievements: Talking about your strengths can feel uncomfortable, but it's necessary. Be genuine, confident, and honest about your accomplishments. Advocate for yourself in a way that’s compelling, not boastful.
5. Network Actively: Attend meetings, events, and coffee catch-ups. The more you mingle, the more doors open. Networking isn’t just about landing a job; it’s also about learning and brainstorming with peers.

6. Apply and Connect: Apply for roles but don’t stop there. Reach out to people within the organization. If you don’t have direct contacts, find common connections who can introduce you. Personal connections often open doors that applications can't.
7. Creativity with Class: Be creative in showcasing your skills but keep it professional. Highlight your talents without going overboard. Balance is key – you want to stand out, not be remembered for the wrong reasons!
8. Follow-Up: Patience is essential, but a polite follow-up after a week can demonstrate your enthusiasm. Give the recruiting team some breathing room, but a friendly nudge shows your interest.
9. Stay Organized: Lists are your best friends. Catalog your dream companies, list your skills as keywords to match job descriptions, and track your applications. Organization is your secret weapon against chaos.
Remember, a job search is not just about finding any job; it's about finding the right fit for you. Stay persistent, believe in your abilities, and keep networking. Your next dream opportunity might be just a conversation away.
I will say one thing, this is the best time to not get a quick job….there is nothing more important and special as being with your kiddo right now. Seriously, enjoy every second, they grow up so fast. You will be working before you know it.
