Reject Generic
We are more than a widget, more than a time card, more than a faceless face in a crowd.
Once we realize we have the talent to contribute more than we’ve demonstrated, and we hang in there during the tough times, the tough times will become easier and the world will seemingly conspire to nudge us forward.
If we’re not listening, we’re not learning. If we’re not delighting, we’re not serving. If we’re not closing, we’re not earning. And if we’re not failing, we’re not advancing.
It’s not meant to be easy. Was it easy to drive a stickshift for the first time? Was it easy to give your first presentation? Was it easy to land your first job? Your first date? There’s nothing more satisfying to the soul than overcoming a great challenge. The greater the challenge, the greater the satisfaction!
Having the mojo to start, and the boldness to persevere, these are the qualities of anyone who has ever made it to the top.
“Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it,
Only engage, and then the mind grows heated?—?
Begin it, and the work will be completed!” ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Generic is the easy path, “the path of least persistence.” No one on this path will ever try or do something weird, bold, fun or new. Why? Because they’re waiting for things to happen. The one who rejects status quo makes things happen! They don’t wait. They’re the ones with ideas and the courage to take action. They stick their neck out. They take their shot. And yes, they often fail in the process. But they persevere. They never give up, give in or sell out. They press on.
To reject generic is to reject status quo. It’s not enough to be generic anymore. If we want to leap ahead we need to start now. We need to start being amazing. We need to start being remarkable.
