My oh my, have I been getting an earful from friends, family and conferences/organization attendees on this topic. Since the pandemic, millions of people are looking to or have already reinvented themselves and their careers. I love this!
I am hearing from disgruntled, bold and curious individuals of all ages who are stuck, pissed at their job/management?or simply looking for new options. And, to my surprise, many are willing to reinvent themselves to have more opportunities & challenges.
Today, it’s not a secret we’re able to search for opportunities in ways that make locating and landing a new gig easier than ever before. Sure, there are specific steps that you can take, however, each of us has a personal agenda and timeline. Below are a few ideas that work!
Knowing Yourself is Essential
Listening well to others and reinventing myself from corporate dude to professional speaker gives me a wealth of knowledge.?Knowing yourself is essential.?You need to know?you?really well. Ask yourself why this is so important. What was the pivotal moment(s) that lead you to this fork in the road? Remember, this is an option. One of many, so it is essential to dig down deep and be honest with yourself. You’ll get better results because you have more information to base your decision on.
Additionally, asking for support can be helpful. You can ask friends, family, or co-workers who you trust for support.?They can be honest with you which is important. Plus, they might have insight and wisdom to offer or be experiencing similar struggles.?Ahh, the beauty of new and fresh perspectives!
You’re going to be fearful, have doubt, anxiety, more doubt and even second guessing if you have what it takes to reinvent yourself. You do!
Think about your early jobs. Most of us took a job that paid. We were teenagers and needed work. We learned, gained experience and made some new friends too.
Be Highly Tactical When Reinventing Yourself
Now,?you must be highly tactical.?You need to make decisions based on the change(s) you’re looking for first and the job second. Unless, you already know what you want to do. Once again, dig deep, have courage and talk to others that have done this. Feel free to reach out to me for a 15-minute chat (email below).
Commit, Commit, Commit
Commit, commit, commit.?This takes work, time and energy. Let me repeat that because you need to know going in that this takes hard work, lots of time and massive amounts of mental/emotional energy. It’s often worth it, but you’ll most likely get back what you put in.
You’ll need to adjust, be flexible and adapt on the fly as this process can get messy before results are seen. If something is not working well at your job or career, you need to understand why. This is where adaptability plays a key function in allowing you the freedom to explore and the ability to cut yourself some slack in the process.

“Japan’s very interesting. Some people think it copies things. I don’t think that anymore. I think what they do is reinvent things. They will get something that’s already been invented and study it until they thoroughly understand it. In some cases, they understand it better than the original inventor.” Steve Jobs
Nobody understands you better than you do. Change can be a big deal, providing you with an opportunity to reinvent yourself in stages.
Dig down deep. Be honest with yourself and place fear on the back burner.
