Reinventing a brand "YOU".

Reinventing a brand "YOU".

Most of the career coaches would advise,

“Choose a skill for which you are passionate and not the one which is the most popular”.

I have a different perspective in current times wherein specialising in one core function may not be sufficient for career growth.

A professional is expected to bring on-board an expertise that can make him or her- A Go-To person for business issues.

I take my inspiration from Scott Adams, the legendary cartoonist behind the Dilbert series.

Funny Dilbert satires on business issues.

Scott Adams, the cartoonist behind Dilbert, once quipped,

“Everyone has a few areas in which they could be in the top 25% with some effort.

?In my case, I can draw better than most people but I am hardly an artist. And I am not any funnier than any of the standup comedians.

The magic is that only a few people can draw well and write jokes. It is the combination of two skills that makes my work rare”.

My strategic learning:

“When you can’t win by being better, you can win by being different”.

By combining your skills, you reduce the level of competition, which makes it easier for you to stand out.

I have embodied this learning in my self-development by sacrificing my free time to learning (yes, I have stopped watching TV for over 2 years now) and using this time to learn and read.

Over this period, I have developed an eye for converting data into critical insights, I convert these insights into marketing campaigns, execute these campaigns through my self-learned approach to digital marketing, and scale the business through bespoke strategies which are executed on-ground by a well-trained team.

I bring on board skills like communication skills, operations management, brand building, and business scaling through International business, distribution, and franchising.

Retail is ever-evolving, it needs an expert’s eye to look beyond the 4 walls of retail.

It is evolving into different retail formats and models, and the overall objective of retail hasn’t changed.

It remains the same as what we had learned during our management classes,

“Reach out to your customers wherever they are, efficiently and more effectively”.

Hope this post will make you think about the core skills/ strengths on which you can build your brand.

Question of the week

Do let me know your two unique skills and I shall help you to discover your new career or new self.
