Over the last two days, I have been reliving my Old memories as far as my Initial days of my career. I got hooked to one incidence where one of my then Marketing/Sales head was addressing a Group of Managers and asked us a question that when was the last time we have updated our Resume. At the face of it, it seems to be a very regular statement; however, it moved me deeply. After the meeting had got concluded for the day, I have reached out to him to know more about the Question which he asked us and what it means. He explained to me that it would be a good practice to write your resume every year. Though, you may not actively seek any change from your current job or role; this would certainly bring out to the forefront as what new skills, competencies, certifications, and so forth you have added or not in the last one year.  

Just ask yourself a question whether you are adding experience and value to your career year over year i.e. 1+1+1+1 and so on or just multiplying 1*1*1*1?

Rewrite your Resume Every Year - #ReinventSelf

This practice is such an eye opener for me, since then I have been judicially Writing my resume year after year. In the first couple of years, I was dumbfounded looking at my resume that I could not add even a single skill or competency the whole year to my resume. It made me think and put a positive pressure in pushing me to consciously plan for the year/s to come as what new Skills, Competencies, Certifications can I add to further my career professionally and increase the value as an Individual. Since then I have Reinvented myself over four times i.e. from Sales/Marketing professional in Pharma Industry to Market Research Professional to Operations head in an IT/ITES to present avatar as Executive Coach & Author.

I am in no way suggesting or coaxing you to reinvent yourself so frequently; but indeed, would suggest, recommend you to start practicing to write your resume every year on 1st of April (it depends on when your new financial year starts) and compare it with your previous year's resume. I would challenge you and bet my bottom dollar, which you do not need any other external help/push to advance in your chosen Profession/career.

I became fascinated with this reinvention and the power of such a small activity once in a year, which had a profound impact not only on my career but my overall personality.
