Reinvent your company's future today

Reinvent your company's future today

All companies struggle to stay relevant. If you think you are the exception, just wait longer.

The DOW Jones Industrial Average today contains none of the original companies that were part of its founding in May, 1896. Additionally, nearly two thirds of the companies on the Fortune 500 have changed in just the last 25 years since the index was expanded to include service companies. In fact, only Walmart is included in the top 10 of both the 1995 list and the 2021 list in its original form.?

So why do so many great companies, icons of business success at some point in their history, fail to maintain their dominance? Why do they consistently struggle to reinvent themselves to lead in the next era? They have incredibly smart people. They are very well funded. They have access to resources, connections, reach, and scale that would be the envy of most startups who are just trying to make payroll. And yet, history shows that it is nearly impossible to drive consistent transformation and growth.

We need our CEOs, Board Members, and Senior Leaders of today's great companies to recognize this reality and take decisive action to counter it...NOW!

That is the purpose of this newsletter. Reinventing Icons seeks to help business leaders define a practical and concrete path to transforming their business for future growth and success. The lessons and advice in this newsletter come from actual experience helping iconic global companies search for, discover, and execute on new growth opportunities. Learn from experiences at companies like IBM, General Electric, Bose, and Lenovo, each of which faced a different challenge as it attempted to reinvent its future.

Not all of those corporate transformations were successful. Some of them fell victim to the very trends and behaviors that I will describe in this newsletter. Learn from them. Don't repeat their mistakes.

Iconic companies are filled with talented people who genuinely want their organizations to make a difference in the world. You might be one of them. Each company has strengths that helped it become an icon and enabled it to grow and thrive for years. This newsletter is designed to help leaders access the strengths of their companies and the passions of their employees to create their next era of success and growth.

Reinventing Icons enables leaders to rise to one of the most difficult challenges in business: Making iconic companies industry leaders once again. I hope you will join me on this journey and share your own experiences.

Relevant and interesting topic John Gordon - Thanks for initiating. Would be great to explore how to successfully evolve the brand as they expand into new unchartered territories with needs of time to be relevant and carry forward the brand equity. Changing perceptions is very hard and I would love to learn from you and this group strategies on " Successful Brand Evolution"
