Which leads us to the question of, what led to the innovation of Cannes XR Virtual?

The Pandemic has its own share of contribution to the world, in terms of challenging the industries in various sectors and demanding for a new or innovative approach to their projects and Cannes XR virtual is a product of the same. It aims to imagine and shape the future of movies through a virtual approach. The Marche du Film, business arm of Festival de Cannes, launched Cannes XR, a virtual digital-only event. Dedicated to immersive technology and works as a stepping stone in the development, production, and distribution of films around the world. XR artists, indie filmmakers, large tech corporations, location-based and online distributors, and professionals from the traditional filmmaking industry meet at Cannes XR Virtual to imagine and influence the future of cinema. This programme emerged as collaborative endeavour from five prominent partners: Marche du Film, Tribeca, the Museum of Realities (MOR), Kaleidoscope and Veer VR. Cannes XR Virtual will be shown in a variety of media across multiple platforms:

  • The Museum of Other Realities a virtual art gallery specialising in exhibiting immersive work from VR artists throughout the world, is hosting Cannes XR Virtual for VR users.
  • The VeeR VR Video Platform hosts VeeR 360 Cinema, a collection of 360 cinematic experience from Cannes XR Virtual.
  • Journalists and attendees without a VR headset will get to enjoy Cannes XR Virtual through a network of partner Location Based Entertainment (LBE) in numerous key cities across a few Countries.
  • VR arcades and 360 cinemas: The MOR is said to be the place to connect, share and experience virtual reality art. Robin Stethem, Cofounder of Museum of Other Realities takes pride in saying “The MOR is a perfect place to host an ambitious and stylistically challenging event like Cannes XR”. The idea is to create a virtual venue where the finest digital players from around the globe can meet and interact. Cannes XR Virtual will also collaborate with leading immersive industry leaders to put up a solid and diversified programme showcasing the most cutting-edge creative works and technologies in the VR ecosystem. The Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, is bringing its famed immersive programming online in collaboration with the Marche du Film and Cannes XR.?
  • Premier of “Le Musk” by AR Rahman: The first ever Virtual Reality film by AR Rahman premiered at Cannes XR, which gives the users one of a kind virtual experience.?
