re:Invent 2016 field report

Artificially Intelligent. Bringing together people, ideas, and data. I am because we are.
It will take many of us some time to digest and master the innovations that have been introduced during the latest AWS re:Invent annual conference, and we will have multiple opportunities to discuss the merits and value of each service.
Today, however, I would like to discuss those who attended the event. I have had my share of conferences that I have attended, including several re:Invent. What made AWS re:Invent Vegas unique was the high energy in the air, and the urgency to learn, and the desire to make connections and get things done. Yes, we were in Vegas, but Elvis Presley's 'It’s Now or Never' could have been the theme song for this event! This was exciting because I truly felt like it’s happening and everyone wants to jump on this train. That being said, I believe we would all love to see more female representation in 2017, though I believe it’s just a matter of time.
One of the major themes that continued to resonate is that there is really no AWS way to do it. AWS continues to provide PRIMITIVES and it is up to us to build it, to “make our own pie”. AWS is not the end of innovation. It is not even the beginning of the end of innovation. Perhaps it is just the end of the beginning!
In a nutshell: there is more than one way to do it and the focus is beginning to shift to how to do it efficiently and at the right cost, and to be able to govern it.
