As the year comes to a close, many of us find ourselves reflecting on past achievements and considering what lies ahead. Instead of setting traditional New Year’s resolutions that often lose momentum, why not take a holistic and meaningful approach to goal-setting? By evaluating all aspects of your life and aligning your goals with a clear long-term vision, you can create a roadmap for lasting growth and fulfillment. This week, I’ll introduce you to a powerful tool: the Wheel of Life. It’s a simple yet impactful way to evaluate your current position and set transformative goals for the year ahead.
The Wheel of Life offers a visual snapshot of balance across key life areas such as health, career, family, finances, and personal growth. Each segment represents an essential part of your life, helping you reflect on how satisfied you feel in each. It’s a reminder that your career doesn’t exist in isolation—it’s deeply connected to other areas. For instance, challenges in family life or health can directly impact your professional performance and career trajectory. This interconnected perspective makes the Wheel of Life an invaluable tool for creating meaningful, well-rounded goals.
To get started, take time to audit your life using the Wheel of Life. Draw a circle divided into segments representing different areas of your life. Rate your satisfaction in each on a scale from 1 to 10. Be honest—this exercise is about growth, not judgment. Identify the areas where your satisfaction is lower than you'd like and ask yourself what steps could improve those ratings by even two points. This exercise helps you uncover specific, actionable areas of focus that support a broader vision for your future.

Once you’ve assessed your life balance, turn your attention to your long-term vision. Think about where you’d like to be in five or ten years. Use this vision as the foundation for your yearly goals. Instead of making random resolutions, ensure your goals are stepping stones toward this larger purpose. For example, if your long-term vision involves career advancement, your goal for the year might be gaining a new skill or expanding your professional network. To solidify these intentions, consider creating a vision board—a powerful visual representation of your aspirations.
Here’s my challenge to you: Set aside 30 minutes this week to create your own Wheel of Life and assess each area. Identify one concrete action you can take to improve the score in your lowest-rated segment. Share your insights with me or in the comments—I’d love to hear about your journey.
