Reimagining the Possible

Reimagining the Possible

Today marks the start of?Dematic?Engineers Week, a week in which we honor the contributions of engineers around the world. Engineers are the backbone of our society, solving the toughest challenges imaginable. As I reflect on my 23-year career, a couple of things come to mind … a) there’s no substitute for hard work and b) such hard work can result in unbelievable outcomes.

I’ve had the fortune of working as an engineer in aerospace, energy … and now in supply chain automation. I started my engineering career as a member of GE’s Edison Engineering Development Program. Thomas Edison once said,?“Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.”?I’ve seen this hold true time and time again, having witnessed lasting outcomes delivered through hard work and persistence. It takes many dedicated hours to launch a new aircraft engine, to deliver emissions reductions for a power plant, and to commission a new distribution center for an e-commerce company. In all instances, dependable engineers are front and center.

On a more contemporary note, Elon Musk said,?“Engineering is the closest thing to magic that we have in the world.”?It’s easy to become a believer in the?Power of Engineering?when you watch a rocket launch, or witness a country expand electricity availability to its population, or see critical goods make?their?way to customers around the world with the press of a button.??

In this spirit, I’d like to thank each of our engineers … and more broadly to thank all engineers around the world … who?bring magic?to our society by?Reimagining the Possible in their work every day.

Happy Engineers Week!
