Reimagining Innovation: The Genesis of Shell’s Global Strategic Transformation...

The journey with Shell was catalyzed not just by conventional systems thinking but by an imaginative leap beyond the familiar linear mentality. Our knack for fostering astute decision-making empowered Shell’s leaders and scientists drawing extensively from an eclectic mix of rigorous analysis and boundless creativity - this is epitomized in our Innovation Matrix, which was a combination of hard evaluation and unlimited boundaries in terms of potential.
Our ethos has always been about empowerment, not dependency. We strive to render ourselves obsolete, ensuring that organizations can thrive independently.
When Shell's strategic initiatives showcased remarkable success, curiosity arose- could these methodologies be adapted for new product development and enhance organizational dynamics? This sparked an inquiry into cultivating an innovative culture—how could such a transformation unify teams, bolster profitability, and amplify innovation?
Thus began a unique chapter in our consultancy’s history. Over years of dedicated innovation consulting, we spearheaded the creation of Shell Global Solutions. This venture not only saved billions but also laid the groundwork for visionary 50-year business plans that integrated the most advanced innovations like quantum sensing thus upholding sustainability and establishing one of the world’s most forward-thinking organizations.
We helped to remove the shackles of the collective mindset, fostering a union between scientists and business leaders. This new ethos rejected linear problem-solving in favour of a philosophy unbound by traditional confines - that drew on nature and evolutionary processes. Our approach nurtured a less hierarchical, more psychologically safe environment where teams could freely collaborate, transcending geographical and cultural divides.
This transformation explains why giants like Rolls Royce and ABB have also embraced systems thinking methodologies, pursuing long-term solutions through enhanced forward-thinking and mindful, shared decision-making.
While global courses on systems thinking abound, we do not simply offer training; we revolutionize mindsets. Our consultations prepare individuals for innovation, teaching them not just to adopt processes, but to cultivate intrinsic motivation and think independently with a collective vision.
If our Innovation Matrix is a conduit for systems thinking, its essence lies in unlocking minds and catalyzing emotionally intelligent, systemic action. It's scenario futures in action.
We enhance decision-making by providing deeper perspectives and insights...
?Dr. Allan Samuel, Chief Scientific Officer, Shell Global Solutions comments on our Innovation Matrix."The process is genius, revealing novel, previously unseen insights that are profoundly impactful."
We seek visionary thinkers, including polymaths, who relish complexity and creativity for some of our global projects including governments and organizations, such as, in the health sector that demand sustainable, long-term, future-facing and holistic solutions.

Our collaborations and vision including our Global outreach extend to the Middle East, South America, Africa, the United States, India and Europe. One of the most important lessons I learned at Shell is that cooperation, sharing and collaboration with competitors could make a huge difference in profitability, innovation and savings in collective environmental responsibility and consideration. So, there can be similar benefits in cross-cultural systems thinking in education, health and well-being insights globally.

5 个月you are writing about the matrix but illustrate your model with a network. Yes, a network is a sort of a matrix, but still. A matrix model could be consistent, here is an example (illustrated with the Venn diagram, not a clustered network): https://sdeval.splet.arnes.si/files/2020/06/Sample-Ch-2-Aggregation-problem-Radej.pdf The analytical potential and depth of 'meso-matrix' approach are formidable (15 years of testing in strategic programming and impact evaluation) surpassing the conventional systemic mantra.
I'm blown away. The way you've combined rigorous analysis and creative insight in your Innovation Matrix is truly inspiring. It's amazing how you've helped Shell, and others like Rolls Royce and ABB, not only cut costs but also create visionary plans that incorporate cutting-edge tech like quantum sensing. Let's catch up and see how we can collaborate in Asia to don't just train, but revolutionize mindsets. Keep up the fantastic work - I can't wait to see what you'll achieve next! Cheers, Chet
