Reimagining The Future of Our Industry - Conversations Between Thoughtful Professionals

The future of any industry is seemingly unpredictable and largely relies on the minds of its thought leaders, and this is the same for Change Managers. From a new breed of practitioners coming into the industry, CM Digital solutions, AI, and Opensource change, which I am a firm advocate of, so - we need to prepare and adapt quickly. Reimagining our roles and value through thorough conversations between thoughtful professionals in the field is the first step towards this goal.

In this blog post, we'll explore the outcomes of a change management network meeting at Change Agility's offices held yesterday, where we looked at what we need to reimagine the future of our industry.

?

Reasons for Reimagining the Future of our Industry.

?

The future of any industry is contingent on continuously reimagining and recreating its purpose, values, and goals. The process of reimagining the future begins with thoughtful conversations between professionals who are invested in the industry's long-term success. Discussions should focus on identifying key areas that need to be addressed to create a bright future for the industry.

?

There are many reasons why it is essential to have these conversations and build vibrant networks that benefit the entire industry.

  • First, it is essential to identify emerging trends and investigate how they will impact the industry. These conversations will allow thought leaders to share their insights and form a collective understanding of where the industry is heading.
  • Additionally, it is vital to address any challenges the industry faces so that proactive measures can be taken to mitigate them.
  • Finally, by having these conversations, we can develop a unifying vision for the future of our industry that all professionals can buy into and work towards.

Only through thorough conversations between thoughtful professionals can we hope to create a bright future for our industry.

What We Learn By Engaging in Thoughtful Conversations between Professionals

We must engage in thoughtful conversations between professionals to move our industry forward. By doing so, we can learn from each other and better understand the different perspectives within our field. These conversations help us identify new ways to approach problems and find solutions that benefit everyone involved.

?

To have productive conversations, we made some rules.

  • Respecting others' opinions and being willing to listen and share thoughts were essential.
  • It is also important to remember that we all have different experiences and knowledge bases, so we may only sometimes agree on everything. However, through open dialogue, we can better understand the issues at hand and come up with creative solutions that move our industry forward.
  • Being willing to share openly and not take anything personally was essential.

How to Effectively Generate Ideas & Solutions through Discussions With Peers

?

When it comes to generating ideas and solutions, discussions with peers can be incredibly effective. By talking through problems and potential solutions with other professionals, we were able to gain fresh perspectives and come up with innovative ideas that one may have yet to think of on their own.

In the 2-hour turned 3-hour session, peers opened up about their challenges on projects, as well as difficulties around learning and development, growth, the impact of hybrid working on value, and the industry's future outlook!

Throughout the session, we committed to being open-minded and respectful of others' opinions, ensuring that we get the most out of peer discussions. We also committed to listening as well as interrogating ideas respectfully. As long as everyone involved was willing to engage in a thoughtful conversation, great views, opinions, ideas, and solutions followed!

?

There are countless benefits to having conversations and debates between thoughtful professionals in any industry.

  • For one, it allows for the free flow of ideas and perspectives on a given topic. It can lead to new ways of thinking about the future of an industry and how to navigate its challenges best. Additionally, dialogue and debate can help build relationships and understanding between individuals, groups, or organizations.
  • It can also create a space for people to share their experiences and expertise. Ultimately, these conversations can make positive changes within an industry by opening up new pathways for growth and development.

Final thoughts on How to Move Forward with Reengineering Our Operations and Services

?

When we discuss how to move forward with reengineering our profession and existence, it's essential to consider all the factors involved. These conversations between professionals from all areas of the company will start crafting the best course of action for the industry and change practitioners at an individual level.

As we start this journey and plug into existing networks and institutions, we need to keep in mind a few key things to keep in mind:

  • First and foremost, we must ensure that our customer is at the center of everything we do. They should be our North Star, guiding every decision we make. One of the gaps identified is education. How do we educate our customers on what Change Management is, what value we add, and what they must expect from us?
  • Take a close look at our current processes and ask ourselves if they're the most efficient way of doing things. Streamlining can make a big difference. When last did we question our methods, approaches, and methodologies and make significant improvements to them?
  • Use of technology where it makes sense. There's no need to force it, but using the latest and most excellent tools can help us work smarter, not harder. It is true! Digital CM solutions are here; they are fantastic and help us make sense of collected data.
  • Focus on creating a vast body of knowledge accessible to all.
  • Finally, always be prepared to adapt and change as needed. The landscape is constantly shifting, so it's essential to be flexible in our approach. Yes – I did add this for Change Practitioners to consider – we are not always good at change!

?

By keeping these factors in mind, we will be well on our way to successfully moving forward in our vision to grow the industry and become indispensable members of any change program.

?

Let's wrap up...

?

Through engaging and meaningful conversations, we can significantly improve our understanding of the needs and potential of our industry. By bringing together thoughtful professionals from different parts of the industry to share their perspectives, we can reimagine the future of our industry in ways never before imagined.

Through these exchanges, we can begin to understand how technology is reshaping industries around us and witness how ideas that may have seemed impossible just a few years ago are now being made into realities. Such dialogue informs us about new growth opportunities and exposes us to innovators shaping the landscape today who will redefine what's possible tomorrow.

?

Thank you to everyone that braved the rain and showed up! Thank you for your participation, openness, and input. We look forward to the next connect session!
