Reimagining Disability Employment - A Systems Approach.

Reimagining Disability Employment - A Systems Approach.

I recently published the draft abstract of my research into developing a new disability employment systems model. This work flows out of work commenced in 2012, with the systems model presented at APSE1st in Portland, USA and then recognised in my published thesis in 2018. It's part of a bigger project developing a complete disability employment ecosystem, which is progressing slowly. You can read the revised abstract here and follow a link to the draft introduction document.

Abstract:

The Equilibrium Systems Model of Employment (ESME) is not just another model in the field. It presents an innovative framework that challenges prevailing perspectives in employment settings. Unlike traditional models, ESME emphasises system dynamics and interrelations, redirecting attention to the individual seeking employment and highlighting the intrinsic value of all entities within the employment system. This paper introduces ESME, delineating its unique components, relationships, and implications within employment contexts. ESME posits that achieving meaningful employment outcomes requires equilibrium across system levels, wherein each entity fulfils its role in fostering conducive conditions. Drawing inspiration from Chaos Theory and Bronfenbrenner's Systems model, ESME advocates for radical shifts towards person-centred approaches and innovative funding models to ensure system relevance and sustainability. By embracing complexity and advocating for innovation within bounded chaos, ESME charts a path towards more responsive and inclusive employment systems.
