Reimagine You
Rodney McNeil
Author of the new book “Eye Hate Essays.” Let’s keep the conversation going.
Responsibility is the catalyst of adult life. Alongside obligation comes the stress of daily pressures and the need to maintain our lives. Usually, I do not factor my feelings into my decision-making, but the holidays reveal the mundane patterns of life. By the new year, shedding the old habits, which may have caused harm, proves to be a great idea. Does a new year bring about a new you? It is highly unlikely without a plan in place and actions taken to create that new version of yourself. Instead, consider reimagining who you are.?
? Reinterpret your identity and what you do from a fresh perspective. Remember that your contributions to society and your family have value. Your story deserves to be shared, but avoid using your struggles to burden others with something monotonous. Take inspiration from Pharrell Williams, who presented his story in a Lego format because he thought no one was interested in hearing it. He referred to this style as “voicemail syndrome,” explaining, “So if you're saying you don't like it and you hate it, imagine an hour and change of it” (Mosley, 2024). How can an entertainer's story be boring in any way? ?
Live your life as if you are the hero of your own story. I am not suggesting that you lie to yourself; rather, I encourage you to use your imagination to change your perspective on life. We all embody heroism in various ways, especially through our capacity to serve one another. For example, a cook at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers is a hero because they provide food to hungry customers who expect the brand’s signature taste. Each time a delicious entrée is delivered, they save the day, ensuring customer satisfaction. ?
To summarize my suggestions, there are countless ways to reimagine yourself. We are not one-dimensional beings, and our jobs serve as avatars for our identities. Is it too much to envision yourself as a samurai, drawing on your strategy, discipline, and training? Or as a renowned scientist, showcasing your in-depth knowledge and research? We are creative and imaginative beings with a need to explore and experiment with new ideas. Learn, grow, challenge yourself, expand your horizons, and reimagine who you can be.?
