Regulation and rogue letting agents

Many letting agents in Scotland operate in a professional manner, complying with voluntary codes of practice and ensuring high quality levels of service for both landlords and tenants.
However such good practice is not shared by all and some landlords and tenants can be subject to poor standards of service and, in some cases, illegal practices by some letting agents.
It is a source of frustration to those agents who invest time, money and resource to ensure they and their staff do everything by the book that these bad guys exist and continue to get business.
A recent case in England epitomises why tenants and landlords need make sure the agent they're working with is one of the good guys.
My comments on this case and the introduction of letting agent regulation in Scotland can be found below.

8 年It's all in your last sentence Adrian. Unless Agent Regulation is effectively monitored and enforced it's unlikely to eliminate poor practice. Responsible professional firms who have already chosen to pay dear to be regulated by their professional bodies will take a dim view of being required to pay for an ineffective additional tier.
