Regulating Speech of the Healthcare Industry

Regulating Speech of the Healthcare Industry

By some estimations, the English language has more than a million words.

As such, you’d think controlling a measly 66 of them wouldn’t make much difference.

Unless you consider that freedom of speech in 2023 America keeps facing obstacles.? Familiar players like Big Tech aren’t a surprise.

There is one unlikely participant however.? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Should you choose to accept this truth mission, keep reading.

Increased Sensitivities Writing Content for Healthcare

The CDC, a regulatory body overseeing infection prevention and response, has published a preferred terms list for healthcare content writing.?

Not simply for the medical field alone, but apparently for our entire society.

I read a recent Bloomberg article that mentioned Director Rochelle Walensky’s plans for 2023. Her number one goal?

  1. Clear communication

Naturally, one would assume she was referring to frustrations with the organization’s handling of COVID messaging.? Apparently that’s incorrect.

Taking a break from their day job, they’ve instead decided to delve into the whole “arbiter of truth” lane.

Possible Effects on the Healthcare Content Writing Industry

The beauty of healthcare writing in the United States lies in an unrestricted access to a complete list of medical terminology.? Or at least it used to be.

Thanks to the internet, patients continue to become more educated on the medical industry.? So, what could happen if they determine facts are being withheld?

  • According to Healthcare Success, almost 71% of website visitors will leave if it doesn’t have sufficient health information

As a result, their trust in the healthcare field could potentially suffer.? And also their confidence in medical writers as a whole.

Which would make it more difficult for freelancers like myself to find work.? Because I can only speculate, time will have to be the determining factor.

Now let’s look at a specific example.

Roadblock to Marketing a Private Medical Practice

I’m going to share a not-secret.??

Holistic medicine has been censored for a very long time.? Before Google, Facebook, and others were even a thought in their creators’ minds.

My ongoing research has confirmed this fact.??

With that in mind, will its practitioners have an even harder time getting their message out in the future?? It’s very likely.

And that’s sad.? Because natural options helped cleanse my body from the after effects of chemotherapy.??

But only after my mom found them on her own.

Many others with similar diagnoses may suffer long-term issues because they won’t know that the products are even available.

Hope for the Holistic Industry

However, content marketing for medical practices is the answer to get around this restriction on words.

In a recent blog from Ahrefs, they offered evidence for this:

  • 72% of marketers state that it helps educate your audience

From the words on your website to those sent out to blog subscribers, this awareness-raising messaging is the ticket.

Shoot me a message if you're looking for a partner in this mission!
