Regional towns topping Victorian wishlists revealed by new data

Obscure regional towns have shot up the wishlists of Melbourne househunters experiencing lifestyle awakenings triggered by COVID-19.

Searches for homes in Kaniva, halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide, have notably surged more than 700 per cent in the past six months, according to realestate.com.au.

A host of regional towns near Ballarat and Bendigo have also become buyer targets, with search traffic jumping 619 per cent in Berringa, 495 per cent in Ross Creek, 323 per cent in Durham Lead, 315 per cent in Axe Creek, and 303 per cent in Newlyn.

Other big movers included Lockington (near Echuca, up 516 per cent), Heath Hill (near Lang Lang, up 465 per cent) and Steiglitz (between Geelong and Ballarat, 367 per cent).

Due to COVID-19, people are finding they want a little bit more space, a bit more isolation, and that they’re not needing to be in the office so much. Mt Buller and Hotham Heights also experienced notable spikes in demand of more than 300 per cent in the lead up to winter.
