Region IV Head Start Association 2017 Leadership Summit

Just returning from Region IV Head Start Association 2017 Leadership Summit June 26-29 in Atlanta GA I presented a session on Shared Governance for board members and policy council members The Head Start New Performance Standards was the focal point of this training to ensure board members and policy councils are in accordance with the Head Start Act. We discuss the shared leadership and decision-making of a Head Start program, as required by the New Head Start Program Performance Standards. The content of the presentation outline with the History of Head Start, Review of New Performance Standards and how they relate to Child and Family Outcomes, the Roles and Responsibilities between Board, Staff and the Parents. The participants were very engaged in this session. One on the main topics was Parent Engagement. We discussed that parents are advocates and leaders in the lives of their children. They advocate for their children’s well-being, offering leadership and strong educational values and grow as leaders as their children grow, and as they develop as parents.
