Regina Glass Fibre celebrates its 60th Birthday !

Manufacturing in Australia since 1963, to this day, we are an essential part of the composites industry, known for our dry laid, C-glass, surface veils and tissues, innovation and responsiveness.

Our story

1963 Company Inception

To thicken the bitumen layer on roofs subject to heavy snow, the engineering company, Schuller, developed a dry process producing a unique glass fibre mat or tissue of continuous glass fibres,

BBA adopted the Schuller process, and created startups in five different countries, using “Regina” as a part of each company’s name, in honour of Werner Schuller’s daughter,.

Pacific BBA, the Australian subsidiary, established the Australian Regina Glass Fibre factory in Ballarat, Victoria, on a site where they already had the Mintex plant producing brake linings.

1970 Site Relocation

With the growth of Glass Fibre operations and the introduction of advanced equipment, the factory was moved in 1970 to its present 2.5 acre site at ?Regina Street Mitchel Park. The company is unique in Australia, with access to the leading glass and fibre technologies in Australia and Europe, as well as its own in-house knowledge and skills.

1993 Change of Ownership

The Australian glass fibre subsidiary, known today as Regina Glass Fibre Pty Ltd, was purchased in?1993 by two Australian families, and we have now been independently owned for over a quarter of a Century, marketing our range of glass fibre tissues under the Trademark, EasyVeil.

Business growth resulted in a Federal Government Export Award in 2002.

?2005 New Product Innovation - FireShield

Traditional ways of improving the fire performance of composites often compromise the performance of the finished product in some ways. The then CRC-ACS was commissioned by an aerospace company to develop a method that avoided any such performance deterioration. They developed a unique product, now known as FireShield, which they demonstrated at laboratory level.?Regina Glass Fibre licenced this idea in 2005, but it took a further five years to expand the initial concept, and create products that could be used in most composite manufacturing methods, with most resin types.

The resulting product earned the Innovation Award at the JEC Asia 2009.

?2022 New Products - EasyVeil

The addition of two new products within our EasyVeil portfolio.

EasyVeil SA-HP?–?The High Porosity (HP) version, using 14 - 16 micron fibres instead of 12 micron fibres, ensures rapid resin wetout and air release during moulding, together with increased tensile strength for the same tissue weight.

EasyVeil?FC-HP – The FC version involves a Food Grade Acrylic Binder compatible with all types of vinyl-ester, polyester and epoxy resins and meets the requirements of Regulation EU 10/2011 and its amendments, for plastic materials intended to come in contact with food products.

?2023 & beyond Australia's #1 Glass Fibre Provider

With our global footprint reaching 14 key markets globally and growing, we will continue to work closely with customers and research institutions as we seek new markets for our products and to develop new products for our markets.
