IS THE REGENT’S PARK THE NEW GLYNDEBOURNE?
IS THE REGENT’S PARK THE NEW GLYNDEBOURNE?
Do you love the idea of getting dressed up to listen to a wonderful opera under the stars, whilst dining on a sumptuous repast? Although the idea appeals, the thought of organising a trip to Lewes, finding a nearby hotel, organising food and all the rest may make you wonder if it is worth the faff.
An exciting alternative possibility is to don one’s finery and head up to the Nannie’s Lawn (The spacious spot between the Open-Air Theatre and the Regent’s Bar and Kitchen, on the Inner Circle) in The Regent’s Park. Enjoy Opera from the Opera Brava company and some of Puccini’s most beloved arias in a beautiful environment, minutes away from public transport or local parking.
Two operas are listed this year as part of The Regent’s Park music festival: La Bohème, which is being staged on 18th June at 6.30 and The Barber of Seville, which takes place on 6th August, also at The Nannie’s Lawn at 6.30. The two operas are the two paid for musical offerings that are part of the Regent’s Park Music Festival, which commences on June 17th.
The operas start at 6.30 and it is suggested that meals should be enjoyed at 5.30 before the start. There is also an intermission, which would be a good time to enjoy pudding. The entry price of £45 for adults (£12.00 for children) allows ticket holders to bring their own picnics and chairs, although chair hire is available.
Be thrilled by some of the greatest arias ever written when Rodolfo serenades his new love Mimi and Musetta stuns their friends with her coquettish singing.
Andrew Rawlings sings the part of Rodolfo and Zita Syme is Mimi. Musetta is sung by Natasha Day. The talented production is headed up by Robert Bottriell, Musical Director and Bronek Pomorski, Director. The set is designed by David Parker.?

The Regent’s Park Music Festival has something for everyone and most of the wonderful concerts are free. It is thought that it is the largest free music festival in the UK, running from June through September.
Taking place from the two bandstands in the park, the main bandstand holds concerts from 12.00-2.00 and 3.00-5.00 every weekend throughout the Summer. The small bandstand holds concerts from 2.00. Bring a picnic, or simply wile away the afternoon.
