Career Search TIP of the week:

How to handle rejection throughout the job search process?

Listen, we all know that nobody likes the feeling of being rejected. And oftentimes, it can send us into a spiral of negative thoughts such as “what if I never land a job?” or “what if I’m simply not good enough for this industry?”

The first thing I want you to know is. . .

Job searching can be a challenging experience, and despite your best efforts, you may face rejection from potential employers. It's totally natural to feel disappointed, frustrated, and even discouraged after receiving that dreaded rejection letter or email.?

However, it's important to remember that job search rejections aren’t personal –even if they might feel like it.?

So, for today’s Coffee & Confidence,?I’m sharing some must-have tips for handling job search rejections so you can keep a positive attitude throughout the process and land a career position you love!

Don't take it personally.??A job rejection is NOT a reflection of your worth as a person or your abilities as a professional. Companies have their own specific criteria when selecting candidates. It's possible that someone else was a better fit for the position, or that there were simply more qualified candidates. Instead of taking it personally, try to focus on the fact that you put forth your best effort and gained experience throughout the interview process.

Take time to reflect.?Assess your job search strategies, your resume, cover letter, and interviewing skills. Were there any areas where you could improve? Perhaps you could adjust the way you present yourself or the types of jobs you're applying for. Be honest with yourself, but don't dwell on the rejection. Use it as an opportunity to learn and improve.?

Ask for feedback.??Use this as an opportunity to learn and grow. Apply the company’s constructive criticism to your future job search efforts. If they didn't offer feedback, consider reaching out and asking if there is any feedback they could provide. Keep in mind that not all companies will be able to offer feedback, but it never hurts to ask.

Stay positive.?It’s completely normal to feel discouraged or frustrated! Try to focus on the fact that you are taking action towards finding the right job for you. Consider surrounding yourself with supportive friends and family who can encourage and uplift you throughout the process. You may also find it helpful to engage in activities that bring you joy and help you relax, such as exercising, reading, or spending time with loved ones.

Keep moving forward.?The most important thing you can do after a job rejection is to keep moving forward. Don't let one rejection derail your entire job search. Remember that job searching is a numbers game and that rejection is a normal part of the process. Keep your focus on your goals and continue to take action towards achieving them. Eventually, you will find the right job for you.

And lastly, it’s okay to ask for help.?It never hurts to reach out for help, especially if you’re looking to fast-track your job search process.
