Regarding Email Addresses

Regarding Email Addresses

Email addresses are one of the aspects of job search we take most for granted. After all, you can't change an email address you've had for years, right??

Well, for some, this is the case. For others, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that you create a new email address. Those who fit in this category include email addresses that:

  1. Have a year as part of the address (e.g., [email protected] gives away your age).
  2. Appear to be "spammy" (e.g., [email protected] read and perceived as spam)
  3. Come from an out-of-date source (e.g., [email protected]).
  4. Come from a work account (e.g., [email protected] not that I've ever worked there, although.... you know, that would be an interesting career pivot. Sorry, I digress at times).

I am sure there are scenarios beyond these that require you to change your email address. The best one to have? One that has includes your full name- it then becomes part of your job search brand (IOW, YOU!- e.g., [email protected]).

Don't discount the little things in job search. Make sure your email address is professional and on-brand.
