Refrigeration Unit
Material Replaced: Steel, Standard Nylon Application:
Refrigerated trucks and trailers help improve the transport of temperature controlled goods. The refrigeration unit features a motor, a compressor and a cooling unit that rely on a series of gears to help efficiently deliver precise control of temperature and humidity to preserve perishable cargo. A leading manufacturer of refrigerated units was experiencing premature wear of a nylon gear due to significant corrosion from a mating steel sprocket. This was causing a 60% reduction in service life.
The CNL Advantage: The manufacturer addressed the corrosion problem by switching out steel for a coated, stainless-steel in the sprocket design, while CNL engineers recommended using NYCAST? cast nylon material for the mating gear. NYLOIL? is a self-lubricated, high-strength polymer that offers good wear resistance and reduced friction. After extensive fatigue cycle testing, the NYLOIL cast nylon gear showed no noticeable friction wear compared to the original gear/sprocket design. This solution helps restore the manufacturer’s original service life expectations.
