Refrigeration System Monitoring
We are continually surprised at what we learn if we just have the data. The following graph shows operations from a new refrigerated warehouse. The evaporator fans had all increased to their maximum speed and the freezers weren’t meeting set point (-6F). It turns out the coils had frosted over, significantly degrading their cooling capability. Once the service contractor adjusted the defrost settings, the freezers met set point and the fan VFD modulated appropriately. This simple correction is delivering more than $25,000 in annual savings and more than offsets the costs for ongoing analytics.
We had similar findings with the coolers as shown in the second graph. In this case, a simple control setting prevented the fans from slowing down, wasting $8,000/year.
Thanks to having ClimaCheck data available, our next goals include raising the compressor suction pressures and reducing our condensing temperatures/pressures. One step at a time.
