Reframing Success: Using Fall to Step Into Your Greatness

Reframing Success: Using Fall to Step Into Your Greatness

Have you read the book The Secret by Rhonda Byrne?

Years ago a former friend told me that I needed to watch a video. It was about The Secret. I decided to read the book. I had always been a fan of writing goals and dreams don before sitting down to do research, set goals and take action.

I recently had a moment when I got so frustrated about the job search process that I had to center myself. I started daydreaming about:

  • asking CPA firm partners I know and have worked with to quit their jobs and go form a CPA firm with me and give me the wellness officer and development lead roles
  • having loved ones and business friends jand me a $250k+ check so I can found 3 businesses
  • what my life would be like if I'd accepted proposals to become a stay at home wife and passive investor young retiree role

Etc.

Daydreaming is nice but unless you are going to turn it into a book, movie or something, it does not pay bills.

I saw a meme on Instagram regarding a backpack for female consultants and after I laughed at myself for wanting the backpack in purple, I started drafting an exaggerated imaginary letter to an HR professional thanking them for my new role.

Read this letter and laugh and cry with me.

When you regain your composure and have time, I want you to carve out an hour and write your own letter on a role or opportunity you want in personal or professional areas of your life. Then I want you to create a list of 5 to 10 questions of what yoi would ask a financial advisor or taxpro regarding achieving the goals. Lastly, I want you to pick out a gift you will give yourself and your loved ones if you achieve the goal.

When all is said and done, find time to create the habits and to take the actions necessary to prepare you so you can get ready and stay ready.
The journey is truly the reward....

Thoughts?

Dear HR person in charge of onboarding at my next role,

I am beyond excited to start the Chief Wellness Officer and Learning and Development role on Tuesday, October 1st.

First of all, I thank you in advance for the sign on bonus, personal and professional development budget, home office set up stipend.

I loved the Tumu backpack you sent in purple which is my favorite color which had so many goodies and tools, including the

Remarkable tablet

Kindle?

Windows Surface tablet with 2nd screen

lavender color Stanley cup

Bullet planner

Matcha tea

Loose leaf jasmine green tea

Dark chocolate covered pretzels?

The 2 books

Etc.

It goes without saying that I am super excited you sent me the Broadway show ticket, Tea Around Town ticket, and Spa Day pass so that I can have a mini-staycation type break before starting the new role.

I tracked the walking pad and it's on its way. It will go well with the Class Pass 1 year membership you provided.

Lastly, I want to thank you for letting me know that the organization will not only compensate me for the leadership committes and that I have full support of management to attend conferences and join networking groups of my choice. Thank you for making a donation on my behalf to two nonprofits I suggested.

I look forward to a long mutually beneficial tenure with the organization and stakeholders. I look forward to the business relationships and partnerships this role will afford me.

Words can't express my gratitude to you for all yoi did to help me negotiate the terms and conditions of my employment. The one year paid sabbatical that I can take 3 months off after a year of service is beyond what I imagined.

I cannot believe that you will allow me to use the corporate housing in Mali, Paris and Madeira for a period of two weeks each within first 36 months at organization.

I have pinched myself many times since receiving and accepting this offer to ensure I am not dreaming and that it is real and can't wait until the upcoming leadership retreat to meet you and my other colleagues in person.

I am forever grateful to John Doe for referring me for this role.

Sincerely…
