Refocusing After a Break: Embracing the Back-to-School Energy

Refocusing After a Break: Embracing the Back-to-School Energy

Do you remember the feeling before you went back to school, or possibly you were going to university? Getting your bag ready; pens, pencils and notebooks packed. The excitement of catching up with your friends, with a little anticipation of starting a new year. There was energy and hopefully curiosity for the learning you would achieve.

It is unlikely that you were thrown straight into 100% learning with all the stress of achieving the moment you started in your new school or University year.

Many of us have taken a break in the Summer; it is important for our wellbeing and personal lives to have a break. When you have relaxed the transition back to work can feel daunting, with the relaxed pace of vacation giving way to the demands of daily tasks. However, this "back-to-school" period offers a perfect opportunity to reset and realign our goals. Here are three top tips to help you refocus, to remind yourself to focus on the small points and make the most of this fresh start:

  1. Prioritise Your Tasks: Start by identifying the most important tasks for the coming weeks. Break them down into manageable steps and tackle them one by one, ensuring you stay organised and productive.
  2. Set Clear Goals: Define specific, achievable goals for the next quarter. Whether it's completing a project, learning a new skill, or improving your work-life balance, having clear objectives will keep you motivated and on track.
  3. Re-establish Routines: Reintroduce daily routines that promote productivity and well-being. This might include checking emails at specific times of the day;? setting a consistent work schedule;? incorporating regular breaks or revisiting habits that keep you energised and focused.

By embracing the back-to-school mindset, you can smoothly transition back into work mode and set yourself up for a successful and fulfilling season ahead. Good luck!

Thanks for your article Susan - some great advice. Two weeks I got back on the phones to call my clients, to ask for referrals and recommendations (I even called you today!) Before I started, I did some strategic thinking about what I wanted to achieve from this exercise - who exactly was I going to call (priorities); what was I going to ask them; what did I want them to do, as a result of speaking to me (goals); and how many calls was I going to make each day (routine). It's been a fun project and I've had some great conversations with clients I've not spoken to for a while - especially you!!
