Reflex?es de um intercambista de primeira viagem

Desde que me lembro, sempre tive uma vontade imensa de explorar o mundo, algo que sempre me atraiu de diversas maneiras ao longo da minha vida. Um grande amigo e ex-chefe, apaixonado por veleiros, percebeu meu interesse enquanto contava suas aventuras e me emprestou um livro fascinante, "Navegando com o Sucesso". Esse livro relata a experiência real da família Schurmann explorando o mundo de veleiro, enfrentando dificuldades e colhendo recompensas. Essa história me marcou profundamente, mostrando que tudo é possível e que experiências únicas aguardam aqueles que se aventuram.

Antes deste intercambio, tive a oportunidade de viajar para alguns países a trabalho e, por curtos períodos, a turismo. No entanto, a experiência é diferente quando se tenta viver como um nativo, com rotinas de quem mora no país. Um famoso poeta disse uma vez: “sonho é uma coisa que fica dentro do travesseiro”, mas desta vez eu decidi tornar um desses sonhos realidade. Com muito planejamento e trabalho, aos meus 36 anos, finalmente coloquei esse plano em prática e decidi morar um tempo no Reino Unido. Essa decis?o me proporcionou n?o apenas aprimorar meu inglês, mas também romper várias bolhas.

A primeira delas foi o choque cultural. Enquanto vivemos na mesma rotina e ambiente, estamos acostumados a seguir certos padr?es, mesmo que inconscientemente. Tive a oportunidade de conhecer pessoas incríveis de vários países, o que me deu uma nova e enriquecedora perspectiva sobre o mundo. Essas conex?es s?o algo que levarei comigo para sempre.

Isso nos leva à segunda bolha, a do estereótipo. Temos muitos estereótipos, e isso n?o é exclusivo dos brasileiros. Isso virou até tema de conversa em rodas de amigos de diferentes nacionalidades. é muito engra?ado ouvir o que cada um pensa sobre nós, brasileiros, e também o que pensam entre si. No final, entendemos que nada disso era verdade e que todos estávamos no mesmo barco, buscando nos integrar, sermos pessoas melhores, lidarmos com a diversidade de forma natural e entender qu?o rica é essa uni?o.

Mas a vida n?o é só flores. Nessa jornada, você enfrentará vários perrengues. No início, pode sentir medo, mas depois perceberá que faz parte do processo e desejará enfrentar mais desafios. No final, eu me divertia com situa??es inusitadas, como me perder ou dirigir no lado contrário da via e do carro (a propósito, dirigir na Inglaterra é muito divertido, com paisagens de tirar o f?lego).

Cada dia trouxe novos desafios. Aprendi a me comunicar de forma mais eficaz, a resolver problemas rapidamente e a ser flexível diante das mudan?as. Essas habilidades s?o valiosas n?o apenas no trabalho, mas na vida em geral.

Viver longe de casa foi difícil. Sentir saudades, adaptar-se a uma nova rotina, enfrentar incertezas. Mas essa experiência me ensinou a ser mais resiliente, mais forte e a valorizar as pequenas coisas que realmente importam.

Por fim, o intercambio me fez ver algo que eu já sabia: todo país tem seus problemas, sejam eles culturais, financeiros, corrup??o, etc. Precisamos ter uma pitada de realidade para evitar que nossos sonhos se transformem em pesadelos.

Se eu puder dar um conselho a quem está pensando em fazer intercambio, seria: vá em frente! Se você acha que está velho para isso, saiba que basta estar vivo para viver um sonho. Sim, pode ser assustador no come?o, mas as recompensas s?o imensas. Você voltará com uma nova vis?o de mundo, amizades duradouras e habilidades que far?o toda a diferen?a na sua vida pessoal e profissional.

Reflections of a First-Time Exchange Student

Ever since I can remember, I have always had an immense desire to explore the world, something that has always attracted me in various ways throughout my life. A great friend and former boss, passionate about sailing, noticed my interest while recounting his adventures and lent me a fascinating book, "Navegando com o Sucesso" This book narrates the real-life experience of the Schurmann family exploring the world by sailboat, facing difficulties, and reaping rewards. This story deeply impacted me, showing that anything is possible and that unique experiences await those who dare to venture.

Before this exchange, I had the opportunity to travel to a few countries for work and, briefly, for tourism. However, the experience is different when you try to live like a local, with the routines of someone who resides in the country. A famous poet once said, "a dream is something that stays inside the pillow," but this time I decided to make one of these dreams a reality. With a lot of planning and hard work, at the age of 36, I finally put this plan into action and decided to live for a while in the United Kingdom. This decision not only allowed me to improve my English but also to break several barriers.

The first of these was cultural shock. While living in the same routine and environment, we are accustomed to following certain patterns, even unconsciously. I had the opportunity to meet incredible people from various countries, which gave me a new and enriching perspective on the world. These connections are something I will carry with me forever.

This brings us to the second barrier, stereotypes. We have many stereotypes, and this is not exclusive to Brazilians. This even became a topic of conversation in groups of friends from different nationalities. It is very amusing to hear what each person thinks about us, Brazilians, and also what they think of each other. In the end, we realized that none of it was true and that we were all in the same boat, seeking to integrate, become better people, deal with diversity naturally, and understand how rich this union is.

But life is not all roses. On this journey, you will face many challenges. At first, you may feel afraid, but later you will realize that it is part of the process and will want to face more and more challenges. In the end, I had fun with unusual situations, such as getting lost or driving on the opposite side of the road and the car (by the way, driving in England is very fun, with breathtaking landscapes).

Each day brought new challenges. I learned to communicate more effectively, solve problems quickly, and be flexible in the face of changes. These skills are valuable not only at work but in life in general.

Living far from home was difficult. Feeling homesick, adapting to a new routine, facing uncertainties. But this experience taught me to be more resilient, stronger, and to value the little things that really matter.

Finally, the exchange made me see something I already knew: every country has its problems, whether cultural, financial, corruption, etc. We need a touch of reality to prevent our dreams from becoming nightmares.

If I could give advice to anyone thinking about doing an exchange, it would be: go for it! If you think you are too old for this, know that as long as you are alive, you can live a dream. Yes, it may be scary at first, but the rewards are immense. You will return with a new worldview, lasting friendships, and skills that will make a difference in your personal and professional life.
