Reflections on This Week’s G7 Life Sciences Meeting

We are at a seminal moment for global leadership and private-public collaboration, which is why I was proud and humbled to have been invited to participate in the constructive discussions at the G7 Life Sciences Meeting. I was grateful for the opportunity to provide Pfizer’s perspective on the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and how the public and private sector can collaborate most effectively to meet today’s challenges and to better prepare for future global health crises.

I applaud the G7 for recognizing the biopharmaceutical industry’s unprecedented contributions to addressing the pandemic, as well as the essential role innovative biopharmaceutical companies play in developing the therapies and vaccines of the future.

The pandemic still has a devastating hold on much of the world, particularly our most vulnerable populations, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is paramount that we continue to work together, and quickly, to defeat this virus in all corners of the world.

In supporting the Pandemic Preparedness Partnership (PPP), Pfizer is reiterating our commitment to meeting society’s greatest challenges, and our commitment to our purpose: Breakthroughs to change patient lives. As such, we are encouraged that the PPP recognizes the imperative to provide equitable access to vaccines and treatments, as well as the value delivered to society by a robust R&D ecosystem supported by strong intellectual property, global free-trade and markets that value scientific innovation.

I have said throughout the pandemic that Science Will Win. As we look ahead, I am confident science can win the battle against future pandemics, if society is prepared to embrace science and allow the Life Science sector to do what we do best – discover and develop world-changing breakthroughs.
