In this case, I will provide some Reflections on UAE Health Data: Challenges and Opportunities:
Looking at the recent WHO data (published report Feb 2025) for the UAE (based on 2021 data), several critical patterns emerge that deserve our attention:
The mortality data shows cardiovascular diseases (ischemic heart disease and stroke) as dominant killers across the population, with notable gender differences. While men face higher rates of heart disease (30.6 vs 15.9 per 100,000), women saw COVID-19 as their leading cause of death in 2021 (18.2 vs 15.5 per 100,000). Diabetes and road injuries continue to represent significant preventable mortality causes.
The projections through 2025 paint an encouraging picture of healthcare improvements, with approximately 626,000 additional people expected to enjoy better health outcomes, 530,000 more covered by essential services without financial hardship, and 448,000 more protected from health emergencies compared to 2018 levels.
Action Points for UAE Health Authorities
Call to Action
The data clearly shows both challenges and progress. UAE health authorities must leverage their existing infrastructure to address the persistent burden of non-communicable diseases while maintaining vigilance against emerging threats. Public-private partnerships, preventive health campaigns, and continued investment in healthcare innovation are essential to sustain and accelerate positive trends.
The opportunity to improve over 600,000 lives by 2025 represents not just statistics, but real families and communities whose well-being depends on thoughtful, evidence-based interventions today.
