Reflections on this Thanksgiving Day 2020...

Thanksgiving, as a holiday in the US, has a special meaning... a time for family and a time for reflecting on all that we have been blessed with... a time for gratitude. This year - this aggravating, confounding, troublesome, disruptive, game changing year - it is even more important for us to reflect and be grateful for what we have. To acknowledge what has been lost and to reflect on what we can do... to go that extra mile for those in our networks who have lost much.
That said, it has been interesting to acutely and (hopefully, astutely) observe the actions and reactions of the ecosystems around us – our politics, our corporations, institutions and our own personal and professional micro networks – and my quick reflection is this: We do come together as a society, as a nation, as a people… and we do extend a hand and we do the right thing(s) instinctively and by default. Yes, we have seen egregious behaviors across all facets of life, but what has been amplified for me is that we collectively course-correct; we act with compassion; we are resilient, and we adapt.
It has been gut wrenching and thought-provoking in watching those in my network and those around me in dealing with unexpected and unwelcome changes in their professional and personal lives. It has been exhilarating watching some others see positive opportunities open for them and move them in directions they never thought they would go to. And, it has been humbling to have played a very small role in enabling the positive direction for the careers of some on this network.
In as much as we all want to, it is hard to stay in touch with everyone at an individual level. So, anemic as a social media message may be… to all those in my network and to all out there, my (and my family's) gratitude for your friendship, for your support and for being a part of my journey in my professional and personal life.
In the words of Maya Angelou, “When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.”

4 年Well said Akhil. Having the right perspective on our “momentary troubles” has certainly been something that makes all the difference for me.
