Reflections

As most people in retail know the fiscal year ends at the end of January, so while others celebrate the end of the year at December's end, in my mind I am thinking about Inventory and reviews, and thinking that I have one more month, kind of the calm before the storm, the opportunity to get things back to normal, well retail normal. I have chatted with a few people about the 2015 year and while some are retail veterans, some are quite new but many felt it was a tough year and are thinking of leaving the retail field. While my advice to all was personalized, I wanted to share this. You have to love what you do, you have to get up everyday thinking you can make a difference, you have to learn from your mistakes and not be afraid to challenge yourself, I truly believe that you can balance a happy home life and a successful career but it starts with you, you are responsible for your own happiness. If you are like many that are thinking of a career change, think of it as a coaching moment and ask yourself. What is the root cause of me wanting a change? Hopefully your answer will lead you back to why you first fell in love with retail, and you can get back to planning for Holiday 2016.
