The Reflections of a Sleep out Volunteer
In 2017:
- I didn’t know that there are 4.2 million youth in America experiencing homelessness.
- I didn’t know that 3,300 of them were in Atlanta.
- I didn’t know that Covenant House of Georgia provided vital services to over 1,800 of them.
- And I certainly didn’t know that I wanted to do my part by sleeping outside on the ground on a cold November night!
This will be my third year participating in Covenant House’s Sleep Out event, an event to raise funds and awareness for Georgia’s youth experiencing homelessness. Each year, my involvement has increased because each year I experience meaningful connections and see the direct need for support of our young homeless community.
As I prepare for my third year as a volunteer sleeper and my first year as co-chair of the executive edition, I’m reflecting on the impact we have been able to make through fundraising the past two years. This year we have a goal to raise $970,000. I would greatly appreciate your assistance in reaching this goal and extend a sincere thank you to those who have already donated to the CBRE team.
