Reflections on the SicherheitsExpo (Security Expo Munich)
Last week, Allan Chester , CEO of any2any GmbH ,attended Munich's SicherheitsExpo (Security Expo Munich). I wasn’t familiar with the expo, but I saw my LinkedIn feed blow up with many people and companies showing there. Since I couldn’t attend, Allan was nice enough to share key takeaways from his experience at the show. As Allan writes, the SicherheitsExpo, growing in significance yearly with more significant players showing up, is focusing more on identity and mobile solutions for the DACH market, despite some ll about the uptake of new standards and mobile technology.
Thank you, Allan, for sharing your perspective
Reflections on the SicherheitsExpo Munich by Allan Chester
This expo has been catching my attention for years as it continues to grow in importance. This year was particularly extraordinary as it garnered significant interest from the incumbents.
Large players like dormakaba and ASSA ABLOY Group , and Salto graced the event with a more substantial presence than in previous years, focusing on property management and the physical side of business. We also saw a rare appearance of HID with their stand, signaling their gradual move into the European market.
Nevertheless, some players were missing. Wavelynx was nowhere to be found (as expected), and I didn't spot Interflex Datensysteme GmbH ( Allegion ) either. Brivo , however, attended in full force as visitors, while Eagle Eye Networks had a small booth at the edge of the event.
Interestingly, identity seemed more focused this year, with card identity players taking more interest. TKH Security and Schneider Intercom GmbH / COMMEND also had a significant presence as did a number of the traditional physical card issuers such as idVation GmbH , evolutionID GmbH and Plasticard-ZFT GmbH & Co. KG .
This expo has become increasingly significant for the entire DACH (Germany /Austria/ Switzerland) market. Over the years, the Expo has grown in size and diversity, shifting from hardware to solutions addressing the access control lifecycle and all enterprise interactions.
This year, it was clear to see customers (Enterprise and Property) coming for inspiration, marking a shift from the previous partner and integrator meetups.
The topic of OSS Association was also prevalent and something the major players are being open to discuss and support. Many however are slow see the need to support this new standard, many remain uncertain if this is the right approach.
One of my biggest takeaways is the rise of mobile. It's now reached DACH, though many still believe a 20% uptake over the next few years is optimistic. The end customer and technology providers are ready to push mobile. The challenge lies with the middle layer—the integrators, installers, provisioners—who remain skeptical and require education.
Lastly, the 苹果 wallet (no 谷歌 !) is around and people are pleased with their Apple devices beeping. But the reality is that most has been hand-provisioned, and many admit that the Apple wallet pass was provisioned painfully. ?Most are still unaware what the commercial path is.

In conclusion, the SicherheitsExpo continues to grow in importance and diversity, and it will be interesting to see how it evolves in the coming years.
Feel free to reach out to me for any clarifications. Until then, cheers!
Best, Allan
