Yesterday, August 19th, 2024, we laid to rest Ms. Maureen Mwanawasa, Zambia’s former First Lady. While many knew her as the wife of Zambia’s third President, Levy Mwanawasa, who served from 2002 until his passing in 2008, I was fortunate to see beyond her public role. Through our encounters—whether in the company of others or in one-on-one conversations—I discovered the depth of her character and drew invaluable lessons from her life.
