Reflections on Presence, Value, and Focus

Reflections on Presence, Value, and Focus

Hello and happy October!

?

Has it been treating you well so far?

?

I hope it has, and I hope you're set for a brilliant week.

?

I thought today I'd dip back into a ‘three thoughts’ set up as there are a few things I wanted to share, so here they are, I hope you enjoy!

?

Release Your Grip.

?

To be completely transparent, I've been somewhat stressed and feeling the pressure over the last year or so, and it's not because I'm not working hard or because I'm not doing well, it's actually because I have been so attached to potential future opportunities that when they don't land it feels like a huge set back.

?

In coaching we always talk about being unattached to the outcome, and that's what I've been doing a really back job of recently.

?

Over the last few weeks I've made a real effort to step back and stop trying to control to future, and what I've seen as a result is that I've been way more present, I've enjoyed my work more, my quality of work has improved, and I've been way more appreciative of the clients I currently have rather than worrying about who may be next.

?

And strangely, since I've released my grip on the future, random new opportunities have landed that I wasn't expecting.

?

How can you start to release your grip on life and let things play out as they want to?

?

Look At Me - Look At This!

?

We are all aware of how well personal brands, personal stories, and giving people visibility into yourself does online and on social media.

?

I'm completely on board with this, recognising that people buy from people, and it's absolutely something I've engaged in myself during my time as a business owner.

?

However, promoting yourself as an individual and growing your personal brand should not come at the cost of not adding value or sharing your expertise with the world.

?

I've noticed that there is a line to tread between promoting your personal brand and actually adding value, and quite honestly I feel like we are maybe playing too much into the look at me court rather than the look at this court, which I am completely guilty of doing myself.

?

Off the back of a recent chat I had, I realised that I quite often just tell people what I am doing, about my new clients, achievements, which basically becomes the Haydan show.

?

I'm now doing my best to keep people aware and updated about me, but also ensuring I'm sharing thought provoking content relevant to my industry and role to hopefully inspire others and share my expertise and knowledge.

?

I guess what I'm saying is I absolutely want to know the person behind the business, but I also want to see evidence that they are who they say they are when it comes to the work the do.

?

Too Many Cooks Spoil The Broth

?

This phrase has felt very prevalent for me recently, as I am someone who very often asks others for their thoughts and opinions.

?

I don't think that getting other peoples input is a bad thing, but you do have to be quite specific about how many people you ask, and who you ask in my opinion.

?

I can guarantee you that if I went and asked four people about how they thought I could develop my business, they would all give completely different answers, and it's unlikely that any of them would be aligned to what I was thinking.

?

I've found that what works better for me is presenting my thoughts to one or two close individuals and asking for feedback, opportunities and issues, rather than getting peoples own thoughts on how they would do something if they were me.

?

It's a tough thing to balance, wanting to speak things into existence by telling people and creating accountability, but not getting everyones input which could potentially put you off moving forward with your plan.

Quote for the week

?

“If you look at what you have in life, you'll always have more. If you look at what you don't have in life, you'll never have enough”

- Oprah Winfrey

Recommendation

?

Inside Out 2

Disney Plus

?

'Inside Out 2” returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.' ?

I watched this film last week, and as much as I already loved the concept of the first one, this one was event more brilliant.

?

This movie focuses on the internal realities of how anxiety works, and the visual display they have created is sure to resonate with pretty much everyone.

?

I definitely sat there thinking ‘yep, I’ve been there!', and in some way that is hugely comforting.

?

I also love that by the end of the film, not only do you have a clear understanding of what anxiety is and how it works, but there's also some great stuff in there about how to deal with it.

?

A fun watch for kids and adults, so get it lined up for your next rainy weekend!?

Life Hack

?

Sunrise Alarm Clock

?

The dark mornings are upon us, and it's only going to get worse…

?

And this is where a sunrise alarm clock comes into it's own!

?

The way these work is that you set your alarm for say 6am, and then from about 5:30 the alarm clock will slowly mimic a sunrise, gradually brightening up the room until the alarm goes off, by which point you are likely to have softly awoken.

?

I much prefer this to an awful Iphone alarm going off, and because it's separate it means you can ditch your phone in the evening and not have it next to you which is great for better phone habits.?

?

Waking up to a bright room will also help you get up easier and help you feel more alert first thing, rather than waking up in a pitch black room.

?

For anyone who suffers from SAD (Seasonal affective disorder), these are really helpful!

How can I help you?
