Reflections on peace of mind!
Hey,
I have not shared some thoughts in the past few Mondays, as I thought my visit to the hospital would be at most a week.
Turns out they like my company here Netcare. Long hospital stays: in between the procedures, pain, naps and random connections, give you an opportunity to reflect.
Options on the tele are very limited!!!
My experience here got me to reflect on the value of investment on insights. In my role clients often shift uneasily in their shoes when they hear the investment required from Kantar.
So here is my take on your uneasiness.
I had met my surgeon ahead of my admission and we had both agreed the reversal of the stoma (colostomy), was the best route towards improving my quality of life.
It took me 4 years, factor in COVID19 and one too many shisa nyamas, to mount up the courage to do this operation.
I was scared!
I know how much emotional and psychological energy it takes to carry an operation. Every sneeze, cough, getting in and out of bed…starring at an object on the floor as if a Jedi force will somehow pull it into your hand – it is no easy journey.
I was scheduled for the operation on Tuesday (It would be an 8 hour procedure). I struggled to fall asleep the Sunday and Monday – thinking of all the things that can go wrong in 8 hours and I would not even get a chance to get my 2 cents in on how to save me.
The anesthesiologist came to see me the Monday evening, a witty and confident gentleman. We spoke about my medical history and he asked me to sit on the edge of the bed and proceeded to walk me through step by step on the procedure and what will be done and how.

I felt somewhat relieved. He went on further to say “The Doctor prefers to do these procedures on a Tuesday, because that is when he has his A Team, from me to the scrub in nurses. Jack – you have nothing to worry about, we have done plenty of these mate – you are in great hands”.
I still did not sleep!
Tuesday came and the moment was here. In the theatre we followed the process as he had explained it…everyone moved with precision. I knew I was in the hands of professionals.
Over the next few days of observation my physiology decided to go the other way, few complications emerged. My Dr and I discussed them intimately – the strategy had not changed, we were still on the path to restoring my quality of life, the tactics would need to be adapted and that is exactly what we have done in the past 3 weeks.
What does this have to do with commissioning research with Kantar and the cost of research? must be the question running through your head.
Peace of mind. Professionalism. Experience. Commitment. My fears finally subsided in that theatre because I had finally submitted and had peace of mind that I was in great hands.
Kantarians, across all our domains, project management teams, practice areas and divisions, undergo constant rigorous training on our solutions and approaches. The experience in the local business alone - is vast, varied and seasoned.
Lastly is our commitment. Once you have commissioned work with Kantar, we consider ourselves your partner and not supplier or agency. We walk the distance with you no matter what, so we help solve your problem. ?
One of the things I look forward to is talking to you. I am happy to talk shop and I am happy to talk life, whatever your need is, reach out to me and let us talk.

1 年??…absolutely agree Jack Hlongwane. If it means occasionally putting social media on the back burner, it’s fully worth it. #mentalwellbeing
