Reflections on our 'Grow Your Practice' workshop

Panos Chronis and I recently hosted a workshop on what we have found to be essential in growing each of our practices. Upon finishing, I felt a mix of accomplishment and humility. Presenting our insights and learnings to a large group of therapists was initially nerve-wracking, but ultimately incredibly rewarding. Such events remind me of the foundations upon which 'It's Complicated' was built.

Before we even launched the beta-version of our directory, 'It's Complicated' was a community of therapists discussing the unique challenges of being a mental health professional and the pain points of private practice. Back then, I could share my experiences of starting and expanding my own practice as a new psychologist and a newcomer to Berlin.

Since then, much has changed. The onset of the pandemic led to 'It's Complicated' evolving beyond just an MVP into a comprehensive SaaS suite that has connected tens of thousands of therapy-seekers with their ideal therapists.

My private practice experience has also expanded. I've transitioned from a brick-and-mortar practice to conducting all my sessions online and moved to a city where I'm the only therapist listed on 'It's Complicated.' This effectively meant starting from scratch, without the benefit of a pre-existing network to boost my visibility.

The most grounding and satisfying aspect of my work with 'It's Complicated' is being a community member on equal footing with my therapist peers. This ensures that we're building features that are genuinely relevant for therapists to thrive and provide quality therapy. It also guides me in creating content that not only inspires but is also practical. Perhaps most importantly, it fosters a sense of belonging, as I'm in close contact with my peers daily.

So even though the workshop was conducted online, the buzz of the therapist gathering felt tangible, and it goes without saying that I'm excited for many more events like this in the future.
