Reflections on My Internship Experience at EY: A Journey in Japan and Singapore Taxation
Over the past 20 weeks, I have had the incredible opportunity to be a part of EY’s internship program as a PAS Tax Intern, focusing on Japan and Singapore tax regulations. My journey took place in the vibrant offices of Bangalore's RMZ Infinity. During this period, I had the privilege of meeting numerous talented individuals who played a pivotal role in my professional growth. I am deeply grateful for the connections I made along the way .
Broadening Horizons and Embracing New Responsibilities
This internship provided me with an excellent platform to broaden my horizons and take on new responsibilities. Working on client engagements and case studies alongside my fellow interns was an immensely fulfilling experience. It inspired me to be more proactive and open-minded in my pursuit of new opportunities. Reflecting on my professional journey, I have realized that being a self-starter and taking ownership of one’s career path are crucial to building a fulfilling and successful career.
Mastering Time Management and Communication
During my internship, I had the chance to practice organizing my workload and juggling multiple priorities with different deadlines. I learned the importance of asking even the simplest questions without hesitation, and it was encouraging to witness my abilities improve each day. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds, all passionate about what EY offers, was both inspiring and thrilling.
Overcoming Challenges and Building Technical Skills
While there were many positive aspects of my internship, it’s equally important to acknowledge the challenges I faced. One of the most significant hurdles was learning and retaining the technical skills required for tax compliance in Japan and Singapore. Applying this knowledge to various scenarios demanded a higher level of analytical thinking. Although I struggled initially, the guidance and advice from my coworkers provided me with a clearer path forward. I will continue to use this internship as a learning opportunity to further hone my skills in this complex area.
