REFLECTIONS ON A METAPHOR

REFLECTIONS ON A METAPHOR

This is a foto of a fireline just in front of the Thomas Fire in California which almost took our place. The crew is not retreating from the behemoth moving toward them, instead, like all good infantry, it is gauging, judging and preparing to do battle-a battle in which they are already joined. They are fully committed as they have no choice. That is fine. That is what they do.

Today, we have a National conflagration. We are all that crew and we have to do what we must.

Our grandparents had to go to war. We are asked to sit at home. We can do this.

We are America.
