Reflections of Life after Tesla

After 6 years in one of the most exciting companies in the world, there are a few things that I’ve come to realise, which I believe this could be shared with others that have worked or work in a hypergrowth company.
1.??????Constant want for more: We always strived for bigger, and bigger goals week on week, month on month, quarter on quarter. This constant drive and focus to keep growing, keep pushing has been hard to let go to this day.
2.??????Special colleagues: One thing which I believe will always be a challenge to replicate, is to be surrounded by the type of colleagues I had. A brand like Tesla at the early stages hired special individuals. Young, driven, motivated, mission lead that would voluntarily work tirelessly and come together as a band of brothers to hit the goal and change the world. From junior members to snr leaders, everyone was equal.
?
3.??????Never content: Regardless of how big of goal I reach, it never feels enough. I always want more, be it bigger house, larger property portfolio, bigger salary. This has come from years of continuous progression, making the impossible possible, not celebrating the instant achievement as the end goal was much bigger.
4.??????Start up Buzz: The buzz from building and developing a business/department from nothing to something. Having to be a self-starter and make things happen, having a small team of likeminded people all pushing in the same direction and doing whatever in our power to make it happen!

5.??????Mission: The mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable transport (later changed to energy) was in our core. We were the underdogs the unknown entity trying to literally change the world. Writing this in 2023, I would say that mission has been a success with the number of EVs on the road today!
?
6.??????No Excuses: ?'Solutions, not Problems' that was the way. It was a ?“how can I solve X” attitude not the ?“oh it’s a problem” ?and if at any time I was going into ‘the problem is’ corner the people around me got me back on track.
Come with solutions to the problem, not just the problem!
Why did I write this?
In truth, there's no real goal for it. Not a single person may ever even read this or care to read it.
What I can say is that it was extremely cathartic for me.

1 年When I think of #5 Mission I also think of Purpose - that was so special about the people of Tesla - each tied their personal mission to helping the company succeed to the greater company mission and goals, and we achieved so much personal satisfaction from helping the collective. It’s difficult to find that in companies after Tesla as very few have as strong of a Mission and focus.

1 年I can completely relate. Especially when it comes to having a kind of urgency about progress. The level you and I experienced there almost doesn't seem to exist outside.

1 年Tesla was most certainly the most unique company I have ever worked for. It was great to read your brain splurge!
