Reflections from the King's Fund Event
National Association of Primary Care (NAPC)
Leading change in primary and integrated care
On 25th?June the NAPC President, Ash Soni OBE FRPharmS FFRPS , attended the King’s Fund for an event on ‘Meeting the productivity challenge’ and was part of a panel for the session on ‘Productivity at a system level’.
Ash shared some of the work that the NAPC have done where?considerable experience and insight has been gathered from implementing integrated neighbourhood care and how this increases team productivity.?Much of the success and acceptance to change ways of working and think beyond the traditional organisational boundaries was due to the extensive staff and citizen engagement across that geography.???
Ash shared his reflections on the event and said: “It was an interesting session as often when people think about productivity they focus on money and value for money, but to actually increase productivity we should always be thinking about people. Collaborative working, as opposed to working in silos, is an essential part of productivity as it enables everyone to maximise their unique skill set within the integrated system – pharmacists, GPs, nurses and other health and wellbeing professionals within the community. This will support productivity at a system level.
“If we’re going to increase productivity, we also need to think about how the people delivering primary care feel. If they find joy at work and in what they’re doing, then they are going to be more productive within their role, they’ll be more enthusiastic to learn and to develop their skills and to collaborate with colleagues. This will result in improved services for patients and citizens.”
