Reflections on Ei in 2022

I'm writing a few highlights from the past year as I reflected on?2022.?

1.???Assessments reform:?We are working in a number of assessment capacity building projects with central and state boards. Our dream is to see that half of all questions in any paper check for conceptual clarity like PISA or Ei-ASSET. If this is done, the energy spent in remembering facts & figures will be channelised towards students learning?with understanding.?

o In?2022, we had 2 Cr questions answered on Ei-CARES and 4 Cr in Ei-ASSET. Did you know that an estimated 200 Cr (or 2 Billion) questions got answered through Mindspark!?

2.???New product development:?We were able to launch ASSET Computational Thinking to measure a 21st Century skill. We have also created a Reading Assessment test that has been taken by thousands of students in the Middle East and a computer science project that is being used by 10k?students in Telangana. We will continue this emphasis on innovation and making new subjects and products that will keep us relevant for the next 22 years.?

3.???Financial prudence:?We survived the financial boom-and-bust cycles that the EdTech industry went?through. Ei made sensible investments while maintaining a profitable business and continues to hire top talent.

4.???Governance strengthening:?We added Mr.?David Levin?to the Ei Board as well as?Dr. Bror Saxberg,?Dr. John Harnisher?and?Dr. Apoorva Bhandari?to the Ei Advisory Board. We strengthen our resolve to operate with global standards at the highest level.??

5.???People:?We added 264 new employees in?2022?welcoming people from diverse backgrounds. That is roughly 1 new person every business?day. Fascinatingly we have had 30 people who have rejoined Ei in the last 18 months reminding us that we are indeed a #purposedriven place to work.?

6.???Continuous Professional Development:?Ei conducted more than 36 learning sessions for employees to attend. A group of high potential employees graduated from the first batch of Ei-Saarthi and the second batch is underway. Many staff members received certifications via professional development programmes such as SAFeAgilist.?

7.???Going #global :?Ei spoke at various fora around the world - including in Davos - and in large EdTech conferences in USA, UAE, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and India. Ei is in conversations with leading technical experts internationally as well as global funders like Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

8.???#sdg17 - Partnerships:?We cannot achieve our mission alone.?We increased the number of partners and resolved to work through partnerships, even when the going was tough, to reach our goal. We are clear that we will focus on making high quality assessments and a personalised adaptive learning software and partner up for all else that we cannot be an expert on.??

9.???Direct customer connect:?We were able to physically meet many of our customers this year after a two year break. Each leadership team member participated in a #purpose immersion programme and met our long term partners. We got to hear?what Ei was doing well and what Ei could do better.

10. #internationaleducation presence: We are now serving both high-income and low-income students in UAE, South Africa and 17 other countries!
