Now the US hits 5 million Coronavirus cases in about two weeks. If the current COVID-19 infection trajectory continues the question is how close to 10 million Coronavirus cases the US hits by the November 3 Presidential Election Day. I am in daily contact with leading analysts and high-level players around the world and people I am talking with are deeply concerned about developments in the US.
I had the great personal experience of studying and living in the US for almost five years. I have friends I talk with almost daily on the East and West coasts and in the Midwestern heartland of the US. I read daily and follow business, politics, culture and societal dynamics in the US.
There are currently a range of complex underlying societal processes at work. No one should underestimate the US - I have personally seen the amazing innovative structures that exist in the US. I had the pleasure of studying with really smart people at leading cutting-edge academic institutions in the US and I saw the breadth, complexity and dynamism of US society.
No country or society can be understood solely by considering one aspect or only by criticizing some parts of its actions. Every country is complex, multi-faceted, evolving and unique.
Therefore, while no one should underestimate the US - we are witnessing the US at a historical inflection point. The US can now pull its act together and emerge stronger over the coming years or we may witness further disintegration.
When I give presentations to audiences of clients, at corporate events or to students at universities around the world I always say that we must never underestimate the resilience of societies. That is vital to bear in mind as we witness the US at this historical juncture.
Therefore I will conclude by saying:
Having experienced, lived in and seen the US over the years I believe we will see the US show a comeback in coming years.
