Reflections

It is great to be back with the newsletter. It forces me to take stock and reflect on the week and I tend to remember stuff I've been up to which normally gets forgotten.

This week we had Jon Dunckley on the FAM show who spoke about neurodiversity. It really made an impact on me the fact that he sent out 200 applications for work as a young boy and had 200 rejections. Fast forward and he is incredibly successful, respected in the financial advice sector, and has more post-nominals than he can use. He explained how he kind of has a superpower as he can pretty much write half a dissertation in 4 hours. Fascinating!

I mention Jon because I went to a networking event in Oxford yesterday. A lady spoke on stage of her story as she is autistic and dyslexic and had difficulty getting work as a young girl. It just made me ponder on how many people out there may be on the spectrum and may be struggling. This lady's business is to work alongside businesses to further understand the individual and their needs. I took her card as hopefully I can connect her with more businesses.

Speaking of job rejection. It feels great to look back on my own career. Starting out in financial services I had many rejections. I either was just not the right fit, didn't have the experience or a combination of both. Fast forward. I'm now looking at a card I received from Paul Harper Search. I was headhunted for the new role I'm now in. Just wow! I know it's not very British of me to state it out loud but, I grew up in a small town in Norway. I feel very grateful and excited!

At some point I'll figure out how to make these images smaller within a newsletter! I'm still learning..

I'd like to recommend following Dan Stanley on Linkedin. He runs a newsletter called "Bettermen Bulletin". It is all about men's health and becoming a better man. He's doing some really great work and I'm a fan of his content!

My post this week on Money & Stress received a lot of engagement. I'll figure out how to make that a longer article and perhaps more of a "how to" to give more step-by-step instructions for those who would find that helpful.

One last thing, I'm pleased to say my newsletter is available in audio format on Spotify. Listen here: https://open.spotify.com/show/7wO3flKZpNZZBuvGZsGwt9?si=497a0bc5aaaf499c

It will take some time to get all the newsletters narrated though. I'll do the usual "please subscribe and rate the podcast". I decided to record my newsletters as I'm aware a lot of people prefer to listen to stuff on their morning commute.

Great post Ben and what Jon says is really interesting. It's something I've only come across recently and that's because my wife works in the charity sector and they're very open/supportive of these things. But it explains why some people are ace at interviews and crap at their job (and vice-versa).

Great stuff Ben! Neurodiversity is a huge thing, that I don’t think enough people are aware of. I did a presentation on Dyslexia at the NextGen digital conference and got a lot of positive feedback from people! Congrats again in the new role!
