Reflections and Aspirations
I wanted to reflect back on what we achieved at Purposeful Intent in 2023 and also provide insight into what we are looking to aspire to be in 2024?
The article from earlier this year, “What is Purposeful Intent?” remains in place, which is what we set out as our goals for 2023.?
I’m very proud of what the team has been able to do with limited resources but big dreams and hearts.
Our stated goals were to be global, educational, diverse, hybrid, fun, inspiring, accessible, valuable, unique, and actionable
I’m proud of how we continue to lead from a diversity perspective. I am dismayed that the industry lags so far behind. We will continue to push our targets for 2024 - 50% non-male, 30% non-white and at least 65% end users. We will add to that in '24. We will continue to track and publish the numbers around diversity and support underrepresented communities.
I myself have recently been diagnosed as being bipolar, and we will continue to look to add neurodiversity as a critical element in our events as well as our content.
2024 will see significant Women Led events, curated by Ali Stricklin in DEIB+, The Future of Work and Diversity in the Workplace.
Our global reach will continue as we add Cork and Singapore and go back to Amsterdam in 2024. We also recognize the economy is not where people want it to be, and events we will stay focussed on core hubs in the US - a return to Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, and new events in DC, Chicago, and Seattle
Our education has been a letdown owing to our inability to create the correct type of forum to share information easily. This will be a big goal for 2024. We will have five events that will be more focused on creating valuable white papers around critical topics. We will also look to share more output around our events, including digital content and sponsor-supported podcasts.

Hybrid has been a challenging venture, but we will be investing more in our hybrid platform, which is running on Mighty Networks. We will also look to create content that we can share offline - most people who do not attend in person will access the content after the event instead of in a real-time hybrid.
We will continue to inspire, provide valuable community interaction, and always be fun. Our PI after-party has become a significant source of connectivity and inspiration. Those of you who attended Boston know that evening was a real highlight of the year. We will look to work with both Eric Kim Haugen and Beau MacMillan again in 2024.
Our uniqueness will remain, but we have seen areas where we can amplify incredible content by bringing people to new environments. As somebody who has impacted me professionally and personally, I am very excited that Duncan Wardle will join us in Phoenix for the first event in 2024. It also happens to coincide with the Phoenix Open, so it promises to be a real kick-off party, as well as a celebration of our second anniversary as a company
From an education perspective, we will be partnering with Nick Bloom , in developing a Remote Work conference in the Bay Area in March. This will be an opportunity for a wider audience to see great academic speakers on nonvested content and have the ability for a small group to digest and provide white paper information to a bigger audience after the event.
One of my personal goals for 2024 is to bring Events that otherwise would not be possible. The most significant of these will be our event centering around the future work for Frontline workers. We aim to have some of the largest companies in the world come and join us to talk about that to provide valuable white papers that can help direct the future shape for an underserved part of the workforce.
We truly appreciate everybody who supported Purposeful Intent so far. The support of our partners, in particular, who underwrite the costs or provide venues, makes what we do possible. The enthusiasm and contribution of our attendees make every event a joy to be a part of. We will continue to be different, push new avenues, and build a community to discuss elements that are most critical to them safely and openly, where challenging discourse is encouraged.
Will also continue our core of being small format, having a platform that can elevate everything related to work, people, and place and that can provide access to core information at no fee to members of the community.?
If you got this far, thanks for reading!
To the Purposeful Intent incredible team, Ali Stricklin , Amanda Murray , and Brittany Taylor , Platform Ambassador, Chris Moeller (as well as those of you who are not yet named) - I could not and would not do this without you, so please always remember how much you mean to me both personally and professionally
