Today during the Public Speaking Skills program we had an open talk, an open question and Answer session on two different topics. One was centered around April Fools day and the other one was around Bday celebration. While the intention of the program was to ensure that all the children speak up ,share thoughts, ideas without any inhibition, this activity made me observe how each child was responding. Mr. A was very eager to share his experience of how he was made to eat Oreo with cream removed and toothpaste added(to my horror) between two biscuits. Turned out that most kids enjoyed listening to the experience and to my surprise also like the taste of toothpaste.
Mr. D loved sharing how a very small group of friends managed to attend his Bday party during the Pandemic and expressed all his gratitude for being able to enjoy it. He also showed us his favorite Bday gift “A Tanker with a remote” and was kind enough to give us a demo…We were all glued to the screen while he was showing us the demo .
Ms. S shared how being fooled by her friend happened to be one of her most memorable event.
There were many more experiences shared but one thing was common ,the eager to connect ,the eager to communicate ,the eager to be able to express freely without any fear of being judged. The reason behind sharing this is being able to share my learning of the day. One is to reflect on how Children have adapted to the situation but need to communicate, they feel great being able to express themselves without the fear of being judged. So Fluency, Vocabulary ,Choice of words, Content ,Framing of sentences is important but can wait, at least now it can wait. Their face to face interaction has considerably reduced. Lets all offer them a support system which helps them express freely. Sharing a pic of a game we played.
