What Sparked My Curiosity to Learn More ?
As we step into the fresh possibilities of a new year, many of us find ourselves reflecting on our aspirations and the paths we want to forge.? A recent New York Times article ignited my curiosity about the power of passion to fuel success in unexpected areas, and the importance of nurturing all our interests, no matter how unusual or unexpected.
The article, titled "The Flying Maestro: A Top Conductor Moonlights as an Air France Pilot," profiles Daniel Harding, a renowned conductor who also pilots commercial flights in his spare time.? Harding's story challenges the notion that we must confine ourselves to a single pursuit. "I don't think it's realistic to say just because you love something you should do it 24 hours a day, every single day," he says.
Inspired by Harding's story, I am reminded of another fascinating individual, Bruce Dickinson. Not only is Dickinson the lead singer of the iconic heavy metal band Iron Maiden, but he has also enjoyed successful careers as a commercial pilot, even piloting Iron Maiden's own tour plane, Ed Force One. As a brewer, he played a key role in developing Trooper beer, a popular ale brewed in collaboration with Robinsons Brewery. He has written several books, including his autobiography "What Does This Button Do?" and the novels "The Adventures of Lord Iffy Boatrace." He also founded Cardiff Aviation, an aircraft maintenance company.
These stories highlight the incredible potential that lies within each of us to embrace diverse interests and talents. It is inspiring to see individuals who defy expectations and pursue their passions with such fervour.
Questions for Reflection:
I hope these stories and questions encourage you to embrace your own unique blend of passions and explore the endless possibilities that await in this new year.
